José David's Dream: A Journey Back to Puerto Rico to Transform Lives

mlamourt

José David's relationship with Fundación Kinesis began thanks to his brother Arnaldo, who was also a beneficiary of the Bright Stars program.

José David has always had a clear dream: to return to Puerto Rico to serve underserved communities and educate future generations on the importance of health and research. This talented and committed young man, who was part of the Bright Stars program and is currently a scholarship recipient from Fundación Kinesis, is determined to make a difference on his home island.

Born and raised in San Juan, José David completed his high school education at Cupeyville School, standing out as one of the best in his class. His love for science led him to be accepted into some of the most prestigious universities in the United States, including the University of Notre Dame, UMass Amherst, the University of Connecticut, Rutgers University, the University of Puerto Rico - Río Piedras Campus, and ultimately, Boston University, where he currently studies Cellular and Molecular Biology with a focus on Genetics.

During his time at Cupeyville School, José David not only excelled academically, receiving the Salutatorian Award for the Class of 2022 but also became involved in impactful extracurricular activities, such as being part of the Puerto Rico United Nations Student Congress Committee. At Boston University, he has maintained exceptional academic performance, earning a spot on the Dean's List and receiving the Boston University Presidential Scholarship. Additionally, José David is an active member of the Student Government, working in the Social Advocacy Department and advocating for important causes for the student community.

José David's relationship with Fundación Kinesis began thanks to his brother Arnaldo, who is also a beneficiary of the Bright Stars program and is currently a student in a combined M.D./Ph.D. program in medicine and research at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Through Kinesis, José David not only acquired academic skills but also essential competencies in leadership, teamwork, and the use of technological tools, which have been key to his academic success.

Reflecting on his experience, José David recognizes the value of the support he has received from his loved ones and Kinesis. "Kinesis was one of the most important factors in my university planning and application process. They also helped me develop academic and personal growth skills and prepared me for standardized tests like the SAT and College Board. They taught me how to write Common Application essays, how to apply to different universities, and how to focus on my academic goals," shares José David.

Despite his academic responsibilities, José David always finds time for his passions. He loves spending time with friends and family, enjoying fishing, and exploring art, science, and history museums both in Puerto Rico and the United States. He is also an amateur musician and plays drums in his band, Synphora, drawing inspiration from music and culture.

Looking towards the future, José David has a clear goal: to complete a combined M.D./Ph.D. program and dedicate himself to biomedical research, especially in the search for cancer treatments. His vision goes beyond personal achievements; his true dream is to return to Puerto Rico and apply all his knowledge and experience to serve the communities that need it most, educating future generations about the importance of health and research.

"It is important to value time and make the most of the help that our friends, family, and programs like Fundación Kinesis can offer. Support is as important as discipline and dedication. It is essential to make good use of time, live a balanced life, and surround yourself with people who positively influence your personal, academic, and social life," reflects José David.

With his determination and a heart committed to his community, José David is an example of the transformative impact that programs like Kinesis can have on the lives of talented young people, committed to building a better future for all.

José Franco's inspiring story is an example of how dedication, curiosity, and the right support can open unimaginable doors, and his story continues to inspire other young people to follow in his footsteps and achieve their own goals.
